Laurie Rich Salerno is a freelance journalist in Connecticut who writes news and feature stories about a variety of topics -- from politics and science to the everyday.

Most recently she was a staff reporter for the Record-Journal Newspaper in Central Connecticut and left the paper to have her first child. Before that she was a local editor at Patch.com in Meriden, Conn.; a managing editor at Chicagoland's regional West Suburban Living Magazine in Illinois; a political, sports and entertainment PR representative in Washington, D.C.; and a Peace Corps volunteer in the Silk Road nation of Uzbekistan. Her work has been featured in Newsweek, Discover Magazine, EurasiaNet, regional print and online newspapers and magazines, and major outlets throughout North America via the New York Times News Service.
